The Budd Group is a leading facilities services company that has made a dramatic transition from a small, entrepreneurial company to a highly successful corporation. The company has branch offices in nine cities with operations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Florida. The Budd Group has been in business for more than 45 years, and has a long-standing tradition of customer service based on hard work and integrity. These core values are best exemplified by its founder and chairman, Richard Budd, whose motto has always been "Do what you say you're going to do." These simple, yet key, words are the driving force that has propelled the family-owned company from a modest janitorial supply company to a highly successful conglomeration of businesses with primary focus on janitorial, security, and landscape services, with annual revenues of over $60 million.
The Budd Group had its beginnings in 1963 when Richard Budd purchased a struggling janitorial supplies company, Weaver Maintenance Supply Company. With Budd realizing that it needed assistance and direction, the company was able to successfully eliminate its debt in four years and began its pattern of steady growth. In 1968, Budd renamed the company North State Supply. Then in the 1970's, The Budd Group continued to grow and diversify through carefully chosen markets. It added both janitorial and landscape maintenance services to its line of business.
Strategic growth started in the 1980's through its concentrated marketing efforts and company acquisitions. The regional corporation changed its name in 1987 to Budd Services, Inc., to reflect a consolidation of all the former North State divisions and various new acquisitions. Until 1988, nearly all of the company's revenues resulted from business within the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. The Budd Group took a pivotal turn in 1988 by broadening and diversifying its operations into other states within the Southeastern United States. The janitorial business expanded into the Charlotte area and South Carolina. In 1990, The Budd Group acquired two security companies, one in eastern North Carolina and Vickers Security in Florida. In 1991, a Charlotte janitorial service company was acquired. An acquisition was also made in 1994 of Tar-Heel Natural Turf and Carolina Blooms, a Charlotte full-service landscape maintenance and installation company. Additionally, in 1999, The Lawnscape Companies , an Orlando, Florida, family-owned landscape and installation company was acquired to give The Budd Group a wider presence in the southeast.
In 1998 the company changed its name from Budd Services, Inc. to The Budd Group. This change was to reflect the company's increasing diversification in all regions that it serves. The Budd Group continues to have its headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where it originally began. Today, The Budd Group employs more than 2,800 people throughout the Southeast and offers services to various customers at facilities that include office, industrial, manufacturing, educational, healthcare, etc. Company-wide, The Budd Group provides over 20,000 weekly hours of unarmed security services, performs janitorial services in over 15,000,000 square feet of cleanable space, and provides landscape maintenance services for over 2,000 acres of property.
